Hosted by Bold Tendencies in Peckham
To celebrate the launch of new publishing house Prototype, and the publication of its first annual anthology, PROTOTYPE 1, please join us for an evening of readings and conversation exploring experimental approaches to the creation and production of fiction.
The evening will feature readings from Test Centre and Prototype authors Sam Riviere, Jen Calleja and Caleb Klaces, plus a specially-recorded audio appearance from Eley Williams, followed by a discussion chaired by publisher Jess Chandler with Sam, Jen, Caleb and literary agent Harriet Moore.
From Sam Riviere’s ‘ambient novel’ Safe Mode to Caleb Klaces’ forthcoming debut poem-novel Fatherhood, Jen Calleja’s interdisciplinary work as poet, translator, prose writer and musician, and Eley Williams’ brilliant explorations of the auditory uses of fiction, the event will showcase the innovative work of these writers and consider the ways in which our understanding and definition of fiction should be challenged, and the role of literary agents and publishers in finding outlets for experimental work.
As Maggie Nelson said in an interview recently, ‘You have to remember, always, that what people think will sell is not the same question as whether or not one is writing worthwhile literature’.
Fiction: Live is a series of independent live events held at Bold Tendencies, inspired and concerned with the 2019 programme theme of Fiction.
