Jen Calleja introduces: Vehicle, at Voce Books, Thursday 12 October

Discover the speculative world of Vehicle – one of this year’s most surprising & experimental books – with its author, Jen Calleja.

In Jen’s genre-defying verse novel, a group of scholars are assembled for a project called The Library Research Residency. When the group discover that the residency is not what it first seemed, & that they have been co-opted into a covert operation to identify texts & materials deemed illegal by ‘The Nation’, they find themselves on the run & piecing together the truth of what truly binds them all to each other – a former punk musician called Hester Heller & their each & individual studies into a cataclysmic event known as ‘The Isletese Disaster’.

Introducing us to the books unusual & electric experimentation with form – a text full of documentation, transcription & personal reflection – Jen will examine the ways history can be carefully re-wired & re-written under the surveillance of the state & in light of fading cultural & historical memory. She will also talk about the ways her work across a number of literary forms – as novelist, poet, publisher & translator – informs her approach to writing.

Jen Calleja is an author, poet, International Booker Prize shortlisted translator & publisher at Praspar Press. Her books include ‘Vehicle’, ‘Dust Sucker’ & ‘I’m Afraid That’s All We’ve Got Time For’.

This is an ‘Introduces’ event – our series of informal & relaxed talks specifically geared to foster collective discussion & new friendships, where new books are introduced to us by the authors who wrote them. For all ‘Introduces’ events we offer a 10% discount on the book when bought in advance.

Tickets for the event are free, but we kindly ask that you place a reservation here via our Eventbrite page.
